Torn between three very different Pateks--help!

Sep 03, 2013,21:38 PM

I have been saving up to get my very first Patek--and I am getting close to making the purchase. However, I am now torn between three very different Pateks. I first saw the 5711 1/a at my AD and fell in love; then on a trip I saw the 5167 a; such a light and comfortable watch that will wear well on my travels to hot destinations and on weekends. Then finally the other day I saw the 5738p Golden Ellipse--it was gorgeous and fit me so well--but I worry that for my first Patek weather it will get real daily wrist time. I wish I could get them all at once. Any advice?

Thank you!

If you are so much torn, that means that you are not ready.

Doubting is an exquisite moment, which you have to fully live. Go back to the dealer, try them on again and again, take some pictures of each of them, and look at them on your computer screen. At the end of one month, you'll know which one will be THE one...

Excellent advice

I think Amanico's comments above are perhaps the most important advice you will receive. For the majority of us the purchase of a Patek represents a substantial commitment and establishes entry into the horologically elite. There should be no doubt or ind...

the advice I had in mind as well. Take your time! Good luck with your decision and I am looking forward to see pictures afterwards :-) Oliver

You have the answer

I know this is the usual and possibly easy answer, but it is also the only true one : only YOU can choose according to YOUR taste. The only thing we here can do is tell you what we would do if we were in your shoes (difficult exercise!). You have already ...

Mike you are just so addictive :-) Best, Oliver

A sensational question to ask.

when one considers such an important decision as buying the first Patek. Mike gave a very lengthy reply and I think the considerations are well covered. Except for one, the price. With the options u have, buying one pre-owned/ from AD ? How much do u expe...

What was your first Patek? and which one do you wear the most on a daily basis today?

5167 or 5711

5167 for hot destination but I personally like 5711 blue dial for its classic, sporty look and daily beater. You won't regret buying either one.

Thank you all for the great advice...

I will make sure to post new pics when I make the acquisition.

1st PP

For some of us the 1st PP will most likely be the only PP for a long time. In such a situation, it is worth adding a calatrava to your shortlist. IMHO, it represents the essence of PP fnk

3712 Nautilus, Golden Ellipse in WG with blue dial and 5167 Aquanaut. Most of the time I am wearing my Aquanaut but I just came from a business trip from London and this week I have been wearing my Nautilus. Some comments: - Aquanaut is probably the most ...

Never buy a bracelet later

, Only you could call a Patek Philippe "a daily beater" :) I agree with the advice to get the metal bracelet upfront, even if a strap is the usual fastening. For some unknown reason, when the bracelet is purchased later as an after-market accessory, it co...

I bought the bracelet version of 5167 and then the rubber strap separately. What kind of watch could be more like a daily beater than 5167? Rubber strap, light, low profile, water proof to 120 meters, a good but relatively basic movement, etc. Don't let t...
